Brief Description

An Aerospace company based near Birmingham City Centre are seeking a Machining Engineer to join their rapidly growing team.

Qualifications Required

3 GCSEs at 9 ? 4 / A* - C (5 or above preferred), must include maths, English language, and ideally Science, or equivalent related qualification.

Training to be Provided

This 4 year programme will include:
? Engineering Basic Skills training ? off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham
? NVQ Level 3 in Engineering
? A Technical Certificate (BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Engineering)
? In house training in line with your requirements.

Future Prospects

Our training plan is for each apprentice to spend 3 months in each of the 3 CNC machining cells, Manual Cell, Inspection and Engineering Dept?s.

Depending on their aptitude and desire, plus our business need, they will then select an area to complete their apprenticeship.

Duties and responsibilities during training:

- Compliance with all relevant Health and Safety and Legislative requirements
- Learning all aspects of the business from production commencement to completion
- General Machine operating / CNC Machine Operating / CNC Setter Operating/ CNC Programming
- Operating and using the following equipment; measuring equipment; hand tools; grinding machines; turning machines; milling machines; CNC machines; ancillary machines; inspection requirements
- Booking stock out of stores
- Transferring stock to appropriate locations.
- Picking stock from stores and recording part numbers.
- Checking equipment looking for faults/damage and potential hazards
- Filling out job sheets recording work carried out, parts used and condition of equipment.
- General housekeeping duties
- Maintaining company vehicles and carrying out safety check sheets on a monthly basis
- Ad-hoc duties as requested.
- Undertake internal training as appropriate


Once trained you will be responsible for:

- Carrying out production operations as detailed within the Route Sheets
- Monitoring and inspecting product and process characteristics within the scope of their activities, carrying out production first off inspections, quantity counts, recording the details and signing and dating the Inspection Check Sheets
- Notifying Supervision following the detection of suspect or non-conforming products;
- Notifying Supervision following the completion of specified production activities, as applicable
- Ensuring products are finished off safely and properly in line with good practise e.g. removal of burrs, countersinking etc. as appropriate) and transporting them to the next process Holding Area
- Carrying out relevant safety checks and maintenance on plant and equipment used, as applicable
- The provision and maintenance of relevant Quality records
- Completing work in a timely manner to the required quality/standard

You will ensure that you are aware of:

- The workplace organisation and maintain cleanliness at all times
- Set-Up Reduction techniques and utilise them
- Standard work instructions and utilise them
- The 7 Quality Tools initiative and use them
- The Statistical Process Control techniques and use them
- Work area equipment that is supplied and that it is working correctly
- Product/service quality requirements and you strive to improve them
- The appropriate processing and manufacturing times
- Non-value-added personal movement and try to eliminate it wherever possible
- Non-value-added transport movement and try to eliminate it wherever possible
- The use of only approved materials and products
- The use of the 7 quality tools initiative
- Order requirements and produce the correct batch size
- The Kanban initiative
