Brief Description
As a Software Development apprentice, you will be trained to work for the world's leading supplier of Food Packaging Machines and Equipment, before specialising in developing and programming the software used on Ishida Machines.
Qualifications Required
Essential - 5 GCSEs at 9 ? 4 / A* - C (5 or above preferred), must include maths, English, and Science, or equivalent related qualification.
Ideally you will have an interest in software programming, which you may have been exposed to as part of a GSCE/ A level/ BTEC in IT and want to pursue this as career.

You must be able to demonstrate a passion for engineering, in particular software programming and development combined with a desire to start your career through an apprenticeship.
Skills Required
The apprenticeship programme lays the foundations of engineering expertise using the qualifications gained using maths and science principals gained at GCSE.
A passion for software programming and design would be a distinct advantage given the scope of the role.
Any prior experience in Java, .Net and C# will be greatly advatageous along with any IT based qualifications (GCSE, AS/ A level, BTEC) or equivalent
Training to be Provided
This 4 year programme will include:
? Engineering Basic Skills training ? off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham
? NVQ Level 3 in Engineering
? A Technical Certificate (BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Engineering)
? In house training in line with your requirements.
Future Prospects
Successful completion of the Ishida Apprenticeship may then lead to further sponsorship to HNC, HND Foundation Degree or full Degree courses. Many of our Apprentices progress to senior roles in the Business.
At the end of your apprenticeship you will be in an ideal position to develop your career within Ishida, having prepared well for your destination role. Or you could choose a technical route and take on extra duties and responsibilities. We have wholly-owned Ishida sales companies in 9 countries, and committed, experienced agents and distributors in a further 15 countries. Innovative weighing and packaging equipment plus complete line solutions for these territories are developed and constructed in our UK manufacturing facility.
The initial training and development will be broad based leading to a first appointment as a Technical Software Development Engineer focused in programming software to operate our machines.
This will involve:
Working in a range of planned departments developing and building their engineering skills and knowledge
The first two years of your apprenticeship will be focussed on becoming an all-round engineer to provide a solid base of knowledge. In the 3rd and 4th years, you will specialise in the development and programming of company software, utilising the in house software and hardware.
In terms of the primary software programming we have two products Sentinel (Software Tool) and IDCS (Ishida Data Capture System) that are used in our core products and we use the programming languages of C-Sharpe, Dot Net and Java.
The successful applicant will be trained internally by our Software development engineers, and you will also be sent off site for external software programming courses to be identified as part of your development. This would be the main focus in software development.
Each apprentice will have planned regular reviews to support their progression.
