Following on from this you will go on to specialise as a CNC machinist, where you will be taught how to programme CNC machines and gain a greater insight into how they work. When back in company you will be mentored by a senior CNC Engineer, with many years of experience, who will teach you how to:

- write programs for jobs and amend certain parts within those programs that need adjusting to suit specific requirements of different jobs

You will also learn:

- the background knowledge regarding the different types of CNC machines and the process that the engineers go through for each job, such as writing the program then proofing it out by running the jobs and making any necessary changes needed

As well as the machine-based work, you will learn how to:

- update the tooling sheets for jobs, machine sequences when needed and building tools for specific jobs when they are required for individual machines

This is a manufacturing environment where the practical approach for most of your learning will take place on the shop floor.
