Brief Description

As a Quality Technician Apprentice, you?ll train in metrology and learn about the development and monitoring of measurement capability and capacity, supporting production & tooling manufacturing.

Qualifications Required

5 GCSEs at 9 ? 4 / A* - C (5 or above preferred), must include maths, English language, and ideally Science, or equivalent related qualification.

*Other relevant or prior experience may also be considered as an alternative

Personal Qualities

? An interest in engineering manufacture with willingness to specialise in the field of Quality Control
? Positive attitude with ability to learn new skills.

Skills Required

? Keen eye for detail and mind set to achieve success through their activities in the workplace and college commitment.
? Problem solving abilities with a ?can do? attitude.
? Computer skills across Microsoft Office applications, i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel

Training to be Provided

This 3 year programme will include:
? Metrology Skills training ? off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham on either block or day release
? In house training in line with your requirements.
? EAL Level 3 Award in Metrology

Birmingham Specialities were established in 1926 and part of the Indutrade group since 2014. Our experienced team based across two Birmingham locations are committed to offering a complete manufacturing service to suit clients' needs.

With our new production and warehouse facility opened in 2020, we have acquired an additional manufacturing space of 19,000 square feet. Running alongside our current 25,000 square foot location this will help ensure that no matter how big your project we have the production capability to suit.

We work on in a number of areas:
PRECISION PRESSWORK
Power presses up to 160 tonnes work alongside our CNC machine shop and sub assembly operations to process all your small batch and high volume metalwork requirements.

MANUFACTURING
SYSTEM
A bespoke manufacturing control system ensures every order is processed on time and in full, with real-time information available to the customer at any stage of production.

TOOLING MANUFACTURE
Our tool room offers manufacture and maintenance of your tooling. With access to CAD/CAM programmes such as Solidworks and AutoCAD we can fully inspect your drawings and models to ensure the most efficient manufacturing process possible.

SUB-ASSEMBLY
All areas are supported by a range of ancillary equipment including nut and stud insertion, drilling and tapping, riveting, brazing, and spot welding.

SURFACE FINISHING
Working with a selection of quality assured local partners we are able to provide a wide variety of surface finishes suiting the demands of your product.

QUALITY
Certification to BS EN ISO 9001:2015, with stringent quality procedures that include APQP, Lean, FMEA and SPC, with quality measurement to PPAP and ISIR standards

Vacancy Description:

As a Quality Technician Apprentice, you?ll train in the development and monitoring of measurement capability and capacity, supporting production & tooling manufacturing. Quality, accuracy, timely delivery and evaluation of quality function tasks within the Quality Department are paramount of an ISO 9001:2015 certified company.

You?ll learn a variety of measurement strategies and understand the zero defect approach. You?ll analyse, interpret and evaluate information and will be able to use this information to enhance future measurement developments. As well as the ?hands on? daily quality activities you we become familiar with supporting documentation such as generating working instructions, ISIR / PPAP requirements, 8D problem solving and any other customer specifics.
The ideal candidate will be able to build effective communication channels and relationships with colleagues, customers and suppliers. Your academic and practical gained knowledge of quality system functions will enable you to assist in strategic solutions to measurement problems and identifying areas for continuous improvement within the organization.

Work Description:

This role will require individuals to learn and apply monitoring & measurement techniques to the high class products we manufacture. As a Quality Technician Apprentice, you will learn how to understand and implement various measurement activities using conventional measuring equipment, Co-ordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), shadow graph, material hardness testing machine. manual measurement checks to dedicated attribute gauges for our products. You will learn a variety of skills to support these practices including drawing interpretation, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GDT), Statistical Process Control (SPC) capability studies and practical skills such as measurement programming and operation of our equipment. This will be a varied and challenging position in a fast moving manufacturing environment.

The position is fully supported by an academic learning program with Make UK. The position has a fully tailored college placement of both day and or block release throughout the term of the apprenticeship.

This apprenticeship is day or block release from year 1, attending Make UK's Technical Training Centre one day per week.
