Brief Description

We are searching for 2 apprentices, who relish a challenge, to join our maintenance team within our state-of-the-art automotive factory. You will be trained to perform both preventative and reactive maintenance tasks to minimise any potential downtimes of the factory.

Qualifications Required

5 GCSEs, or equivalent, at grade 4 / C or above, to include maths and English language. Science or an engineering based qualification would be advantageous.

Training to be Provided

This 4 year programme will include:
• Engineering Basic Skills training – off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham
• NVQ Level 3 in Engineering
• A Technical Certificate (BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Engineering)
• In house training in line with your requirements.

Future Prospects

Once you complete your apprenticeship, you will become a multi-skilled maintenance engineer. This could lead on to field service engineering, team leading or management.

We are searching for 2 apprentices, who relish a challenge, to join our maintenance team within our state-of-the-art automotive factory.

As a multi-skilled maintenance apprentice, you will be trained to diagnose and fix any issues that arise. These will cover:
- Pneumatic
- Hydraulics
- Mechanical
- Electrical
- Electronic
- Programming (PLC)
- Robotics
A standard day will be split between preventative and reactive maintenance, ensuring that any machine downtime is kept to a minimum. As you progress through your apprenticeship, the role will evolve into the following role:
Ensure that all machinery is kept in a functional and in a safe condition by dealing with curative and preventive maintenance in close link with the production teams and following quality and productivity standards and HSE rules. Handle all maintenance requirements, performing daily and weekly maintenance activities. Manage the spares system and support new installations required to improve manufacturing performance.


Main Activities:
Provide a rapid response to breakdowns and repair accordingly
Perform daily and weekly maintenance planned activities
Maintain and improve OEE for equipment on systems and manage and maintain Planned Preventative Maintenance system.
Ensure preventive maintenance of all machinery
Check spare part stocks in consignment warehouse
Comply with current operating instructions
Contribute to TPM process
Record consumables in appropriate systems
Manage the spares system for all equipment.
Support new installations required to improve performance.
Ensure that all utility equipment operates in a safe manner and exceeds current legislation.


As an apprentice, you will be supported by both a mentor in company and your training and development adviser from Make UK, in order to ensure that you have the best possible chance to grow into a confident and competent maintenance engineer. As you complete each year of your apprenticeships, you can look forward to regular pay reviews and further training opportunities.

Other Information

Due to the fact that the factory runs 24 hours per day, this maintenance role, once you are not actively attending the training provider, will be on a continental shift pattern, working 4 days on then having 4 days off, doing both day and night shifts.
