Brief Description

This role, within a prestigious aerospace company, will cover all elements of production. You will learn machining, stock maintenance and basic quality checks of the products

Qualifications Required

Education to GCSE level with Maths and English at Grades 9-4 / A*-C or equivalent with excellent numeracy and literacy skills.

Training to be Provided

This 4 year programme will include:
• Engineering Basic Skills training – off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham
• NVQ Level 3 in Engineering
• A Technical Certificate (BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Engineering)
• In house training in line with your requirements.

Vacancy Detail

AE Aerospace (Birmingham) Ltd is a AS9100, subcontract precision machining company for the Aerospace and Marine, Civil and Defence industries. We manufacture low to medium volume prototype components, through to original equipment and higher volume manufacture, plus spares & legacy parts.
We are searching for an apprentice to join our ranks to train to become a production engineer.

Duties & Responsibilities during training:
Compliance with all relevant Health and Safety and Legislative requirements
Learning all aspects of the business from production commencement to completion
General Machine operating / CNC Machine Operating / CNC Setter Operating/ CNC Programming
Operating and using the following equipment
1 Measuring equipment
2 Hand Tools
3 Grinding Machines
4 Turning Machines
5 Milling Machines
6 CNC Machines
7 Ancillary machines
8 Inspection requirements
Booking stock out of stores.
Transferring stock to appropriate locations.
Picking stock from stores and recording part numbers.
Checking equipment looking for faults/damage and potential hazards
Filling out job sheets recording work carried out, parts used and condition of equipment.
General house keeping
Maintaining company vehicles and carrying out safety check sheets on a monthly basis
Ad hoc duties as requested.
Attendance at college 1 day per week leading to a valid qualification at the end of the training period
Undertake internal training as appropriate

Once trained, You will be:
Carrying out production operations as detailed within the Route Sheets;
Monitoring and inspecting product and process characteristics within the scope of their activities, carrying out production first off inspections, quantity counts, recording the details and signing and dating the Inspection Check Sheets;
Notifying Supervision following the detection of suspect or non-conforming products;
Notifying Supervision following the completion of specified production activities, as applicable;
Ensuring products are finished off safely and properly in line with good practise e.g. removal of burrs, countersinking etc. as appropriate) and transporting them to the next process Holding Area;
Carrying out relevant safety checks and maintenance on plant and equipment used, as applicable;
The provision and maintenance of relevant Quality records.
Completing work in a timely manner to the required quality / standard

This level 3 apprenticeship will involve year 1 attending Make UK full time, whilst returning to us during the student shut down periods, Year 2, you will attend Make UK one day per week and Years 3 and 4 will be spent at AE Aerospace full time.

You will also be given the opportunity to be part of the Make UK ambassador scheme from Year 2, supporting 1st year students and representing AE Aerospace at manufacturing events.
You will also receive annual pay reviews to reflect your increase in experience and knowledge. In your first year, you salary will be determined by your age bracket.
