Brief Description

Do you enjoy problem solving? Did you love taking things apart to fix them? Then this role could be for you. AE Aerospace are looking for an enthusiastic person to join their maintenance team to complete preventative and reactive maintenance tasks in a safety critical parts supplier.

Qualifications Required

Having completed some engineering training
Education to GCSE/Level 2 with Maths, English and Science at Grades A*-C (9-4) or equivalent with excellent numeracy and literacy skills, and, ideally, a foundational engineering qualification (Level 2 or higher)

Training to be Provided

This 4 year programme will include:
• Engineering Basic Skills training – off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham
• NVQ Level 3 in Engineering
• A Technical Certificate (BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Engineering)
• In house training in line with your requirements.

AE Aerospace (Birmingham) Ltd is a AS9100, subcontract precision machining company for the Aerospace and Marine, Civil and Defence industries. We manufacture low to medium volume prototype components, through to original equipment and higher volume manufacture, plus spares & legacy parts.

Ae Aerospace are searching for a multiskilled maintenance apprentice to join their team.

Duties & Responsibilities during training:

Understanding the importance of complying with statutory, quality, organisational and health and safety regulations
Understanding of general engineering/manufacturing mathematical and scientific principles, methods, techniques, graphical expressions, symbols formulae and calculations used by engineering technicians
Understanding the structure, properties and characteristics of common materials used in the sector
Understanding the typical problems that may arise within their normal work activities/environment
Understanding approved diagnostic methods and techniques used to help solve engineering/manufacturing problems
Understanding the importance of only using current approved processes, procedures, documentation and the potential implications for the organisation if this is not adhered to
Understanding and interpreting relevant engineering/manufacturing data and documentation in order to complete their job role
Understanding the different roles and functions in the organisation and how they interact.
Understanding why it is important for an organisation to continually review their processes and procedures

Once trained, you will undertake the following:
Resident within the Production Services team to support plant and machine maintenance
Completing work in a timely manner to the required quality / standard
Supporting the smooth running and uptime of operations
Developing and managing machine and equipment maintenance plans
Design and development of tools and equipment to reduce maintenance tasks
Carrying out complex fault diagnosis and repair activities on high technology engineered systems such as:
Maintaining mechanical equipment
Maintaining fluid & pneumatic power equipment
Maintaining electrical & electronic equipment
Maintaining process control equipment

carry out condition monitoring of plant and equipment
carry out planned maintenance activities on plant and equipment
carrying out confirmation testing and subsequent smooth hand over of equipment & plant support the installation, testing and commissioning of equipment (where applicable).
contribute to the business by identifying possible opportunities for improving working practices, processes and/or procedures

This level 3 apprenticeship will involve year 1 attending Make UK full time, whilst returning to us during the student shut down periods, Year 2, you will attend Make UK one day per week and Years 3 and 4 will be spent at AE Aerospace full time.
You will also be given the opportunity to be part of the Make UK ambassador scheme from Year 2, supporting 1st year students and representing AE Aerospace at manufacturing events.
You will also receive annual pay reviews to reflect your increase in experience and knowledge. In your first year, you salary will be determined by your age bracket.
