Brief Description
Due to business growth & as part of our continual investment in the future, we are looking to recruit a Design Engineer Apprentice who will show a motivated & enthusiastic approach to gaining & applying engineering skills in the execution of their responsibilities and who can work as part of a team with a can-do attitude and attention to detail.
Qualifications Required
GCSE or equivalent Grade C / 4 and above in Maths, English, Science
Personal Qualities
Motivated & enthusiastic with a can-do attitude.
General knowledge of vehicle design.
Some knowledge of 3D cad software.
Knowledge of Microsoft office software (Excel & Word).
Takes pride in their work with good attention to detail.
Skills Required
Able to communicate in a confident manor with all other employees on the shop floor.
Excellent I.T skills
Team Player
Training to be Provided
This 4 year programme will include:
? Engineering Basic Skills training ? off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham
? NVQ Level 3 in Engineering
? A Technical Certificate (BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Engineering)
? In house training in line with your requirements.

Vacancy Detail
Alcon is a designer and manufacturer of ultra-high quality, low volume brake, clutch and other automotive components. From tiny brake-by-wire controllers for Formula E racing cars to calipers required to stop 35 tonnes of armoured vehicle, the only factor common to everything we do is our no-compromise approach to engineering excellence.
We are based in Tamworth, Staffordshire and have 170 employees on our site. We design and manufacture as well as having our own research and development team.
We are looking for an apprentice to join our design team to use our design software to create parts according to customer specification
Responsibilities:
? Operating in a team environment, support the design and development of foundation brake components (calipers, discs) and assemblies that meet both performance and production efficiency criteria.
? Using our 3D CAD software Solidworks, produce accurate solid models, component detail drawings, assembly drawings and customer installation drawings.
? Using FEA software, validate designs against established parameters.
? Using our M2M business system create part numbers, BOM?s & production routings to ensure the accurate control of product is maintained throughout the business.
? Create manufacturing & sub-contract specifications.
? Release & manage engineering changes using our EC system.
? To provide engineering support in the printing of drawings for manufacturing & purchasing.
? Work alongside development engineers in the testing, characterisation & validation of components.
? Within established guidelines, ensure that components designed are technically sound, robust and cost effective.
? To support our NPI (New Product Introduction) process into manufacturing through liaison with other departments.
Other Information
You will be required to start work at Make UK engineering training centre in Aston for the first year, to then work at Alcon Components thereof in year 2 onwards with an 8.00am start.
