Brief Description

We are looking for an apprentice mechanical assembly technician to be responsible for assembling and dispatching our highly precise and certified telescopes, to the highest standards possible.

Qualifications Required

A passion for engineering is more important that set qualifications although Grade 3 (D) or above in Maths and English Language would be advantageous

Personal Qualities

A team player, good time keeper

Skills Required

• Good understanding of Engineering and Manufacturing is desirable but not essential.
• Able to produce timely work where required.

Orion Optics are a telescope manufacturer, the only one in the country to manufacturer telescopes, we are known all over the world for our precise optics, we supply our telescopes to most universities both in the UK and all over the world, and we have 3 telescope in space at this time. We were on the TV programme Made in Britain, a few weeks ago, showing how we start and finish our telescope to the highest standard as required by our customers.

We are seeking to employ and train an assembly technician apprentice.
You will be highly trained to work in the world of manufacturing. The initial training will be broad based and could lead to a first appointment as a mechanical assembly technician

Mechanical assembly technician of world class telescopes will be involved in:
- Learning all about the telescope product lines
- Assembling and calibrating all our telescopes to the highest standards
- Getting them ready to be despatched. These highly calibrated products are very specifically packed as there is some very delicate glass items to be protected.
- Booking all our products in with the couriers ready to be collected
- Despatch to our customers

Other Information

You will be required to travel to Make UK's training centre in Aston, Birmingham on day release, one day per week. Whilst the travel will be funded, please be aware that you will need to make your own way to the centre in time to start classes at 8am.
