Brief Description

As an Apprentice Service Engineer you will be providing onsite corrective/preventative maintenance on water systems at our customer sites. You will work in the Scientific, Healthcare , Industrial and municipal customer Markets as well as within our digital engineering team and Process water and Water treatment areas.

Qualifications Required

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 / C or above is required, and this must include Maths and English language.

Strong communication skills both verbally and written, with the versatility to communicate at all levels in a clear and concise manner.
A professional approach to your work and communication with colleagues and customers.
Good organisational skills with an eye for detail and the ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasks

Training to be Provided

This 4 year programme will include:
• Engineering Basic Skills training – off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham
• NVQ Level 3 in Engineering
• A Technical Certificate (BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Engineering)
• In house training in line with your requirements.

Vacancy Detail

As a field service engineer you will be required to give our clients the best in class quality service.

You will be based in the North of England and be willing to travel throughout your patch. You do not need to be based in Manchester since this is a field based role and not based from a company site.
Your head office is based in High Wycombe, where you may have to attend meetings.
You will either hold a current driving license or be close to booking your test, because you will be given a company vehicle in the 2nd year of your apprenticeship.

You will provide on-site corrective/preventive maintenance for customer’s water treatment equipment, including equipment swap outs, emergency response.
Once fully trained and competent you will be required to carry out commissioning work on standard equipment, and provide after-sales technical and commercial support.
As part of this role you will also be required to complete risk assessments, work reports, activity reports and other documentation

Supporting the Service Engineers onsite to carry out:
Breakdown work – troubleshooting /fault finding
Preventative maintenance work for customers with service contracts
Commissioning work - involving the installation of new products
Timely reporting on progress or delays for customers
Timely completion and submission of risk assessments, work reports, time sheets and all other work related documentation
Site tasks and activities as required
After-sales technical and commercial support to customers

Please note: During the first year of your apprenticeship, you will be expected to attend Make UK's training centre in Birmingham on a Fully funded residential programme. You will stay in Make UKs preferred hotel, which is fully safeguarded, on a paid half board basis. You will travel up on Sunday evening and Make UK will transport you to their centre and back daily. The early finish on Friday means that you can travel home from 12.30pm on Fridays.

Other Information

During the first year of your apprenticeship, you will be expected to attend Make UK's training centre in Birmingham on a Fully funded residential programme. You will stay in Make UKs preferred hotel, which is fully safeguarded, on a paid half board basis. You will travel up on Sunday evening and Make UK will transport you to their centre and back daily. The early finish on Friday means that you can travel home from 12.30pm on Fridays.

There is the expectation that you will hold a current UK driving license, however if you are currently learning and are close to booking your test, you will also be considered. This is due to the travel throughout your field service patch and you will be expected to take possession of a company vehicle.

A flexible approach to customers’ needs and working hours is required in this role and may include the need for you to work some weekends and during some public holidays. You will also be included on a rota to provide out of hours cover and rapid response to our clients.
