Brief Description
Sertec are searching for a Design Engineering apprentice to join their design team to support the CAD requirements using software such as CATIA and IDEAS. This is an amazing opportunity for anyone who wants to earn whilst they learn all about designing parts used in the automotive industry.
Qualifications Required
5 GSCEs, or equivalent, at C grade or above (Grade 4-9), (including Maths, English and Science).

Training to be Provided
This 4 year programme will include:
• Engineering Basic Skills training – off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham
• NVQ Level 3 in Engineering
• A Technical Certificate (BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Engineering)
• In house training in line with your requirements.
Future Prospects
On completion of your level 3 apprenticeship, you may also move on to study a HNC or Degree level qualification when you join the Design team as a Design technician.

Design engineering is a mainly office based role, where you will produce design ideas using a variety of software programmes
Main purpose of the job
• Responsible for CAD data transfer. Control of data transfer both to and from customers and suppliers.
• To support Sertec CAD requirements for translation: CATIA and IDEAS
• To communicate effectively and regularly with the customer engineering base, ensuring that key personnel associated with projects are kept fully informed of Sertec’s progress and highlight any key issues that may need addressing.
Principal duties and responsibilities
• Creating and printing drawings from models supplied.
• Downloading and uploading CAD files
• CAD file conversion
• CAD translation
• Data file storage
• To give design support to customers ( after relevant training )
These duties are not limited or fixed and you may be required to take on additional, reasonable responsibilities, as the business needs develop or change.
