Brief Description
This exciting opportunity will give an individual an all-round understanding of engineering in a manufacturing environment. This programme will involve an apprentice having the opportunity to work in various departments across the business such, PED (Production Engineering), Machining, Assembly, Quality, Toolroom and Maintenance.
Qualifications Required
Candidates will have 4 GCSEs at grade 4 / C or equivalent, including Mathematics, English, Science, and a Technology would be advantageous.
3 / D grades may be considered.

Skills Required
- Work activities that include practical, hands-on machine operating, and problem solving.
- Enjoys working with tools and machinery, typically you might enjoy working on cars, bikes, computers or simply fixing things.
- Completing paperwork to record Overall Machine Effectiveness and productivity and keep auditable records for our site’s requirements.
- Eye for detail to get things right to ensure components are machined or assembled to site and customer specifications.
Training to be Provided
Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations
Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Operations
- Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
- Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment

Please note that this Intermediate (Level 2) Apprenticeship will last for 12-18 months. It will involve spending one day per week at MAKE UK's state-of-the-art Training Hub in Aston, and four days per week at the employer's site for the duration of the apprenticeship.
Future Prospects
This apprenticeship will give an individual an all-round understanding of engineering in a manufacturing environmental. The view is to move the Apprentice onto a Level 3 Qualification in their desired area of the business after the Level 2 Qualification.

The Apprentice will be trained to become a skilled member of the Manufacturing Operations team. Working alongside skilled operators, setters and engineers, the Apprentice will be mentored throughout the apprenticeship with scope to progress to Level 3 in a specific area they are interested in.
The role will predominately be based in the manufacturing environment.
Working around & with:
- Machines - Manual and Computer Numerically Controlled metal cutting machines such as Lathes, Milling Machines and Rotary Transfer Machines.
- Assemblers – Assembling components by examining connections for correct fit; fastening parts and subassemblies.
- Understanding the Production Engineering department and how they support production needs.
- Understanding of quality and lean in a manufacturing environment.
As part of the programme, the apprentice will be working cross functionally with the apprentice co-hort in apprentice based projects to develop their soft skills, such as communication and presentation skills, along with building their confidence to work effectively in a working environment.
In house training will include:
An introduction to and training within multiple departments and core functions of the manufacturing side of the business, these may include:
• Health and Safety
• Manual Turning, Milling and Bench Fitting within the Toolroom.
• Supporting planned and unplanned maintenance with Site Engineering.
• Operating and setting Computer Numerically Controlled Lathes and Milling machine centres.
• Operating and setting Rotary Transfer machine.
• Production Engineering
• Quality
• Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing
Other Information
• Factory environment with some areas requiring hearing protection to be worn.
• Required to work with hand tools and machine cutting tools.
• Personal Protective must be always worn as required (this will be provided).
Working hours: Either Day Shift or Double Day Shift. (To be decided)
• Day shift is Monday Thursday 07:30-16:10 & Friday: 07:30-11:50.
• Double Day Shift is:
• 1st week: Mon: 05:30-13:45, Tues-Thurs: 06:00-13:45, Fri 06:00-11:50.
• 2nd week: Mon-Thru: 13:30-21:15, Fri: 13:30-17:15
