Qualifications Required

For a level 2 apprenticeship, more focus is put on a genuine desire to forge a career in engineering, however a minimum of 3 GCSEs or equivalent, at grade 3 / D or above is preferred.

A level of maturity to deal with balancing college life with work life
A true passion for embarking on a career in engineering
A willingness to commit to the 18 month course and then to remain in company after your apprenticeship

Skills Required

Numerate and literate
Able to prioritise own workload, time management
Good organisational skills

Proficient in the use of Computers and Microsoft Office – Excel and Word

Training to be Provided

Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations
Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Operations
- Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
- Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
- Using and communicating technical information
- Lean/Business Improvement
- Mechanical maintenance/assemblies
- General Machining, Fitting and Assembly Applications
- Bench Fitting

Functional Skills (If required)

Please note that this Intermediate (Level 2) Apprenticeship will last for 12-18 months. It will involve spending one day per week at MAKE UK's state-of-the-art Training Hub in Aston, and four days per week at the employer's site for the duration of the apprenticeship.

Future Prospects

Following your apprenticeship, you should be able to move into your chosen engineering position within your employer company, or even further your qualifications by moving onto level 3 qualifications.

A level 2 apprenticeship takes 18 months to complete, where you will be attending Make UK’s training facility one day per week throughout your apprenticeship and spending 4 days per work at your workplace.

A Make UK apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to learn at an incredible state of the art training facility from some highly talented instructors, have a personal Training and Development Advisor who will support you throughout your journey as well as working alongside a number of other apprentices on a similar journey to you.
When you graduate from your 18 month apprenticeship, you will have achieved your level 2 qualifications as well as gaining work experience at the same time. You should also progress into a permanent engineering position within your company.

You will not be expected to pay tuition fees or obtain student loans, instead you will be paid to learn.
You will be expected to work hard throughout your apprenticeship, however what you will gain from your apprenticeship will more than make up for this.

Other Information

Working in engineering and manufacturing can prove to be noisy at extreme temperatures, sometimes dirty / dusty and you may be expected to work at height or work with heavy lifting.
The work can be very satisfying and with the impending skills shortage across the UK, you could be set for life as long as you put the work in.
