Brief Description
The Technical Support Apprentice vacancy at CNC Speedwell Ltd is an opportunity to train for a highly skilled role, gain nationally recognised qualifications and get paid while you learn! Upon completion, you will have attained the skills and knowledge to start your career as an Engineer with CNC Speedwell.
Qualifications Required
3 GCSEs at 9 – 4 / A* - C (5 or above preferred), must include maths, English language, and ideally Science, or equivalent related qualification.

Training to be Provided
Together with invaluable commercial and practical experience, you’ll gain several academic and vocational qualifications throughout your time with us, which are fully paid for, including:
● Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) – off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham in year 1
● Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)
● Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
● In house training in line with your requirements.

CNC Speedwell was acquired in 1996 by Castings PLC, and from that point embarked on a programme of significant expansion, which, in 2018, led to consolidation of our facilities on our 78000 square metre site in Brownhills. Our business has developed through organic growth, working closely with customers to achieve the most cost effective solutions for their cast components.
We work as Tier 2 to the Castings PLC foundries, machining and assembling chassis and powertrain components for the Commercial Vehicle and related industries in both Europe and the USA, and as Tier 1 to the Automotive Industry.

You will be working with the Engineering department and reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll be working in a team of experienced colleagues to contribute to the efficient running of our 24-hour operation by striving to reduce tooling costs and improve tooling quality across the business. You might expect to:
• Set the standards for the tooling suite for each machine.
• Conduct tooling trials to improve quality and reduce cycle times.
• Deliver innovative tool setting solutions to improve quality.
• Manage tool stocks through close liaison with the tool suppliers.
• Create and maintain tooling sheets to instruct the tool setting team and ensure right-first-time tooling.
• Daily walk around the shopfloor to identify any tooling issues.
