Brief Description
As our Apprentice Engineering Technician, you will work within the Assembly & Inspection department, specifically responsible for manufacturing, repairing & maintenance of aluminium die cast tooling with a cross section of industries from Automotive – on and off road, Agriculture/Construction, Electrical, Oil and Gas, Leisure, and lifestyle.
Qualifications Required
3 GCSEs at 9 – 4 / A* - C (5 or above preferred), must include maths, English language, and ideally Science, or equivalent related qualification.
Personal Qualities
We are looking for someone that would like to become an engineer and is interested in engineering. You must have a ‘can do’ attitude, be willing to learn and undertake any training required for the role, both internal & external.
You must have good analytical and problem-solving skills.
The apprentice will have a practical nature, so you must be a person who enjoys / has a desire to work in a hands-on role in mechanical Engineering with a mathematical mindset.
The apprentice will work in a small team – it is essential you can work within an established team, whilst being a good, clear communicator. Good timekeeping is essential, and you must be flexible to work in line with overtime availability.
Skills Required
Be computer literate – MS Word / Excel.
Training to be Provided
Together with invaluable commercial and practical experience, you’ll gain several academic and vocational qualifications throughout your time with us, which are fully paid for, including:
● Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) – off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham in year 1
● Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)
● Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
● In house training in line with your requirements.
Future Prospects
Following successful completion of your Apprenticeship, you will progress into a full-time employed position within our Assembly & Final Inspection department. Potential exists for additional on the job learning/ training working on a variety of machinery such as the CNC lathe, surface grinder and radial driller. In future, should a position become available, the opportunity would exist for you to progress to a Team Leader position.

As our Apprentice Engineering Technician, you will work within the Assembly & Inspection department, specifically responsible for manufacturing, repairing & maintenance of aluminium die cast tooling with a cross section of industries from Automotive – on and off road, Agriculture/Construction, Electrical, Oil and Gas, Leisure, and lifestyle.
Working under the supervision of our Team Mentor, this involves all aspects of toolmaking from design interpretation to final mould sampling support. The role includes manufacturing of new mould tools utilising CADCAM (SolidWorks/eDrawings) models to a high level of workmanship. Our high value complex tooling can take 3-6 months to manufacture & weight up to 12.5 Tons
What your apprenticeship will involve:
Throughout your Apprenticeship, you will learn and develop new skills, as you work to carry out the following tasks:
• Tool servicing, repairing, and troubleshooting activities for different types of die cast mould tools, you will learn how to strip build & repair mould tool using your skills taught by HCM trained time-served employees.
• You will be taught all aspects of Tool Room equipment from handheld grinding up to CNC machines, Lathes, Surface Grinding & Drilling machines.
• Record key project data for reference, and ensure production checklists are completed to ISO9001 quality standards
• View complex assemblies using 3D CAD software so the correct decisions can be taken before stripping/building the Moulds tools/Dies.
• Complete final inspection using 3D inspection arm (Faro) and software.

Starting at £6.75 but increasing depending on prior educational experience
