Vacancy Detail
COMPANY
Onestop Steel Profiles Ltd are a specialised steel profiling and grinding company, based in Kingswinford. We supply a variety of different industries including Automotive, Construction, General Engineers, Toolmakers and many other industries.
We have several multi head CNC cutting machines and a plasma cutting machine, which are in direct contact with our drawing office, which enable us to provide a fast accurate cutting service. Whether it’s for a one-off profile or batches of profiles. In addition to our cutting machines, we also have several Lumsden Grinders, which can grind blanks to the required thickness.
• Plasma cutting is a process which uses superheated Ionized gas funnelled through a plasma torch, to heat, melt and cut the material into the required shapes and designs. Plasma cutting is a more precise process and produces less heat than gas cutting.
• Flame cutting is the perfect solution for cutting steel profiles/blanks from carbon and low alloy steels. Flame cutting uses a combination of oxygen and either propane or acetylene. It creates a controlled flame that heats the steel to melting point and blasts its way through the steel. You can also use more than one cutting head, which is ideal for cutting high volume requirements.
• Lumsden grinding It is a rotary grinding process, where the steel profile is held firmly on the bed of the machine by a large magnet and the head above (which has the grinding stones in place) rotates on the surface of the steel profile and reduces the thickness of the material. Giving a flat and uniform surface.
The role uses Computer Aided Design technology to prepare customer designs in preparation for production. There will also be a hands-on role helping to operate our CNC plasma and laser cutting machines including using CAM to load cutting dimensions onto machine, as well as loading and unloading blank metal onto the machines.
The main operations are Flame and Plasma cutters and grinding machines
• The material preparation includes use of cutting machines
• The apprentice will become familiar with all these operations whilst on site.
• They will also be assisting in the operation of the Plasma / Flamer Cutting machines which cut out metal shapes. The design drawing is loaded into the system and converts the information into a programme file (Computer Aided Manufacturing) which tells the machine what shape and dimensions to cut.
• The loading and unloading of the metal onto the cutting bed.
• Getting an understanding of the products and production of drawings (CAD)
THE ROLE
We are seeking to employ and train 1 Engineering Technician Apprentice
You will be highly trained to work in the world of manufacturing. The initial training will be broad based and could lead to a first appointment as a Technician

• They will also be assisting in the operation of the Plasma Cutter which cuts out metal shapes. The design drawing is loaded into system and converts the information into a programme file (Computer Aided Manufacturing) which tells the machine what shape and dimensions to cut.
• The loading and unloading of the sheet metal onto the cutting bed.
• The use of a hand and Lumsden grinder to smooth edges
