Qualifications Required
The minimum qualifications required to secure an interview:
GCSEs in Maths and English at Grade 4 or above
3 further GCSEs in STEM subjects e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, IT or ICT, Design and Technology, Economics, Geography. If Maths and English are above Grade 4, other subjects will be considered along STEM subjects. A German language GCSE will be an advantage.
At least 2 A Levels (or BTEC level 3), preferably in Maths, Physics, Economics, engineering or other STEM subjects, however other successfully completed A Levels or equivalent qualifications will be considered.

Experience of Electronics or Mechanics ? including dismantling them!
Good grasp of the principles of mathematics

Training to be Provided
This 4 year programme will include:
? Engineering Basic Skills training ? off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham
? NVQ Level 3 in Engineering
? A Technical Certificate (BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Engineering)
? In house training in line with your requirements.
Future Prospects
An apprenticeship with Zeiss can lead to careers as varied as final test engineer, assembly technician, applications engineer, service engineer, quality engineer, design engineer, spares repair engineer and technical helpdesk engineer.
Apprentices may have an opportunity to move on to complete an HNC and continue studying to first degree level.
We have at least one ex-apprentice currently in each of these roles. It depends on what vacancies are available when you complete your apprenticeship and sometimes you may have to take a different role to your preferred one until you get an opportunity to move, providing you are suitable for the role. Once you have completed your apprenticeship and if you secure a first role with us through applying for relevant vacancies, it is our policy to develop our employees further and to give them the opportunity to progress in the business.
We must be clear that there is no guarantee of a permanent role at the end of your apprenticeship.

We are seeking to employ and train two apprentices.
During your 4 years as a Zeiss apprentice, you will gain experience in some of our departments, for example:
? Production Department working alongside our Assembly and Final Test Engineers (assembly and testing of scanning electron microscopes)
? The service support centre where you will have the opportunity to work with the team to fault find and do repairs on a wide range of our microscopy products
? The Product Design Sustain team where you will learn how to use CAD, develop your design engineering skills and work on team projects
? The process engineering team (driving Lean methodologies)
? The applications team (advising customers regarding products)
? The Quality team (auditing of product and process quality)
You will attend Cambridge Regional College (CRC) with regular visits from CRC assessors to your workplace to progress on your NVQ and other elements of the apprenticeship. You will also receive on the job training in aspects of engineering ranging from assembly and testing of electron microscopes to maintenance and repair of light microscopes and medical equipment. In addition, you will have the opportunity to attend a monthly apprentice group meeting. You will have one to one meetings with your apprentice mentor and work-based mentor in your department on a regular basis to provide 2-way feedback on your progress and training plan.
Other Information
A clean, valid car driver?s license would be highly advantageous due to the location of the job
You have to be able to travel to Cambourne and be able to start work on time in the mornings.
