Brief Description

Qualifications Required

You’ll need to have 5 GCSEs or equivalent (including English, Maths and Science) at Grades A* - C or level 4 – 9 or equivalents.

Personal Qualities

You will need to have a genuine interest in Engineering and show a passion for this type of work.

Training to be Provided

This 4 year programme will include:
• Engineering Basic Skills training – off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham
• NVQ Level 3 in Engineering
• A Technical Certificate (BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Engineering)
• In house training in line with your requirements.

Future Prospects

Once you complete your apprenticeship you will become a qualified electrical maintenance engineer.

The Apprenticeship

Year 1 Full Time College Study (Level 3)

Year 2, 3 & 4 On Site 4 days per week / 1 Day on Release to College (Level 3)

The Steelpark engineers work a 3 shift rota. Initially apprentices will work days 7am – 3pm moving to a 2-shift rota while on day release at college then onto a three-shift rota once college has been completed. This allows the business to match the apprentice with a dedicated engineering shift manager and their team.

What does the role involve?

Ensuring the efficient and safe working of the plant by utilising the skills taught during your training
Carrying out electrical preventative maintenance daily and installation of new equipment as required
Responding to and acting upon the fault report system
Fault Finding and repairing break downs for electrical or electronic faults
