Brief Description

IMI Truflo Marine are seeking to employ and train 1 Maintenance Apprentice to be part of their exciting future development and growth plan. You will be highly trained to work in the world of manufacturing within a lean production environment; the initial training will be broad based leading to a first appointment within our Maintenance teams.

Qualifications Required

3 GCSE’s A*-C (9-4) grade or equivalent (Including mathematics and English Language)

Skills Required

• Practical knowledge of machining, assembly, engineering and quality is desirable but not essential
• Understanding of lean principles is desired but not essential

Training to be Provided

This 4 year programme will include:
• Engineering Basic Skills training – off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham
• NVQ Level 3 in Engineering
• A Technical Certificate (BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Engineering)
• In house training in line with your requirements.

IMI Truflo Marine, part of the IMI Critical Engineering Division within IMI Plc, has been a specialist in the design and manufacture of high integrity valves, actuators and pressure reducing stations for critical nuclear and naval marine applications for over 50 years.

Maintenance Apprentice


Working within a Lean production environment using Lean methodologies in coordination with the relevant teams and departments, you work as part of a team to assist the multi-skilled maintenance team responsible for the maintenance across IMI Truflo Marine providing a high-quality service to both internal and external customers. Duties will include but no be limited to: -
• Participating in cross functional teams
• Ensuring all machines and machine tools are effectively operated to an acceptable level of performance
• Using Lean methodologies within the working area and ensuring machinery and work areas are cleaned and maintained
• Assisting with routine tasks connected to the upkeep and maintenance of IMI Truflo Marine and the machinery
• Assisting and performing perform general housekeeping duties to keep tools tidy and safe
• Ensuring continued communication and good relationships with external and internal customers
• Supporting the implementation of KPI’s to monitor performance internally, and externally
• To comply with all Health and Safety policies across IMI Truflo Marine and IMI Plc
• Carrying out any other duties appropriate to this post, as necessary or as requested

Other Information

Successful apprentices would receive an apprenticeship agreement which details all the terms and conditions of the apprenticeship. This would also include the details regarding working hours within the business as a core but also what the apprentice would be required to work and whether this included working a rotating shift pattern which involves early starts and late evenings.
Successful apprentices would be provided with training and development opportunities and would also be required to ensure that they are abide by the Company and EEF’s Health and Safety policies and procedures including the use of PPE.

Our Company site is located within an industrial estate near M6 J6 and other local transport links and there is a Company car park situated a short walk to the office with a security guard.
