Brief Description
Our Apprentice will be trained in all necessary machining skills and develop their capabilities throughout the programme in order to become a valuable part of the workshop team and help contribute to delivering on our commitment to customers. Training to be Provided
Together with invaluable commercial and practical experience, you’ll gain several academic and vocational qualifications throughout your time with us, which are fully paid for, including:
● Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) – off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham in year 1
● Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)
● Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
● In house training in line with your requirements.
Future Prospects
Once our apprentices successfully complete their apprenticeships we are strongly committed to ensure that they continue to develop and progress – whether that be through further qualifications or more skills development. We have had several apprentices complete sponsored HNC’s, HND’s and degrees once they have completed their apprenticeships. We also have a number of apprentices who have gone to work for Sulzer in another country or have been promoted to supervisor and team leader roles quickly after completing their apprenticeships.
Vacancy Detail
The apprentice will be trained to be able to:
1. Dismantle, rewind, reassemble and testing of conventional single phase and three phase and small motors, and associated equipment including pumps and gearboxes.
2. Carry out incoming inspections of electro-mechanical equipment for damage and evidence of electrical malfunctions to set procedures
3. Document all relevant data specific to unit’s electro-magnetic characteristics, operating conditions, existing damage, or intended serviceability.
4. Prepare all reusable parts for rewinding and inspect renewed parts for hidden, or unusual conditions.
5. Operate specialised repair and testing equipment, including winding machines, test panels, surge testers, core-loss testers, cut-off saws, burnout ovens, bake ovens, grinders, cranes, forklift trucks, brazing units, dip tanks, and various hand held power and non-power tools.
6. Complete required paperwork (including photography) for each job accurately and on a timely basis
7. Ensuring all work meets the appropriate standards and quality control criteria as set out by the company.
8. Ensure that risks and hazards in activities undertaken in the role are acknowledged and conducted in accordance with processes, procedure and measures in place to mitigate risks
