Qualifications Required

The job requires GCSE Maths, English and Science Grade 5 or above, plus two other subjects at Grade 6 or above.

Training to be Provided

Together with invaluable commercial and practical experience, you’ll gain several academic and vocational qualifications throughout your time with us, which are fully paid for, including: 
● Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)  – off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham in year 1
● Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) 
● Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
● In house training in line with your requirements.

Future Prospects

You may be given the opportunity to progress into a permanent engineering position within the company upon successful completion of your Apprenticeship.

Vacancy Detail

To train/learn the ability to rectify all plant malfunctions / breakdowns safe and effectively to enable the continuity and productivity of the plant via completion of a college course and on the job training.

• To isolate when and where necessary plant/machinery by means of the lock off system before commencement of duties.
• Once work is completed then to ensure all safety guards are put back, all safety features work and all debris removed before commencement / operation of the plant/machinery.
• Return all tools used to their correct place and all debris to the correct skip.
• To work in conjunction with Maintenance staff and assist as and when necessary.
• To keep plant maintenance up to date.
• To use all hand/power tools and ladders safely and correctly using the required Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E) and to take damaged /faulty items out of action immediately.

The role holder is expected:

• to comply with all aspects of the Forterra Compliance Policy
• to ensure that all the business/operations are performed in accordance with instructions and procedures and in such a way so as to prevent any fraudulent activities taking place
• to comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and to observe the requirements of the Company Safety Policy and other relevant legislation
• to update all areas of knowledge as required to carry out the job with maximum effectiveness and to attend training/development courses as and when required
• to comply will all aspects of the HR Policies and Procedures of the Company .

Other Information

• You will spend the first year of your apprenticeship at Make UK in Birmingham. During your training weeks you will be staying at a local hotel with other residential apprentices (Sunday night to Friday mornings) each week. Transport is provided to and from the hotel to Make UK each morning and afternoon. Travel to the hotel is reimbursed by the company (subject to our expenses policy).
- The working week will be 40 hours - when back on site, shift work may be expected.

• You will be working in a noisy and dirty environment on site and full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is provided for you.
