Brief Description
We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic person to work in the UPS division of our field services team to service, repair and maintain ABB products. We have a highly qualified and experienced team of engineers and are now looking to train the next generation of field service engineers through an apprenticeship scheme.
Qualifications Required
GCSE grade 4 or above in 6 subjects, must have maths and English,
A Levels or equivalent BTEC National Diploma preferred but not essential
Personal Qualities
Polite, hard-working, reliable, honest, creative, trustworthy, motivated
Skills Required
good written and verbal communication, methodical, computer literate, reliable, ambitious, good listening and interpersonal skills, interest in electrical and electronic equipment, ability to work on their own and as part of a team
Training to be Provided
Together with invaluable commercial and practical experience, you’ll gain several academic and vocational qualifications throughout your time with us, which are fully paid for, including:
● Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) – off the job full time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham in year 1
● Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)
● Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
● In house training in line with your requirements.
Future Prospects
Initially junior field service engineer, progressing into a senior engineer with full scope role responsibilities including customer emergency response and on-call. Could progress into technical leadership or functional management opportunities.

We are seeking to employ and train one UPS field service engineer apprentice(s).
You will be highly trained to work in the fast-paced Uninterruptible Power Supply market supporting ABB equipment installed base. The initial training will be broad based and give a solid foundation in electrical / electronic engineering and understanding of the ABB business and approach to the market. Upon completion of the apprenticeship you will be proficient in the following areas:
• Commissioning and start-up
• Maintenance activities
• Diagnostics & repair
• Battery technologies
• Understanding 3 phase and 1 phase electrical systems
Training will be provided both locally in the UK and at our UPS factory in Quartino Switzerland.
Other Information
Potential for unsociable hours, weekends, evenings and night time working depending on customer needs.
Possibility of overseas travel for training or to support customers in other regions.
